Transportation to Hotel!

The hotel is located 27 miles from Hartsfield Jackson International Airport and can be reached by taxi, private car service and ride-sharing services, as well as by MARTA, Atlanta’s public transportation service.

UBER OR LYFT TRANSPORT FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

We do suggest using Uber or Lyft, which would be about half as expensive as a taxi. Uber Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport uses a FIFO system (First in First Out), where Uber Drivers must wait in a designated zone to receive Uber requests. The Uber vehicle decal (trade dress) must always be displayed on the front passenger windshield facing outward. The unique ATL Airport hangtag will be displayed from the rearview mirror.

Uber’s Hartsfield-Jackson airport page has everything you need to know about getting to and from America’s busiest transit hub. You can request a ride from the airport to your destination or reserve a ride with Uber in advance (Request a ride up to 30 days before your flight.) at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.

The airport has three terminals, so make sure you select the correct option when prompted by the app. Each door has a number, so check the sign above yours and enter it into the app. Once you’ve done that, your Uber will be waiting for you curbside.

TAKE THE TRAIN FROM THE AIRPORT TO THE HOTEL

MARTA offers a direct connection to nearby Dunwoody Station on the Red Line, approximate travel time from the Airport is 38 minutes. The MARTA red line travels north and south through downtown Atlanta, Midtown, Buckhead and the Perimeter Center with a stop at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Stations are in major business centers and many hotels, restaurants, employers and attractions are near the red line. Please refer to the TIPS FOR RIDING MARTA TO AND FROM THE ATLANTA AIRPORT page on the MARTA GUIDE website.

The hotel is located less than a mile from MARTA Dunwoody Station

  • Take a red line train to Dunwoody MARTA station. If you are traveling from the airport before 8:30 p.m., board a train labeled North Springs. After 8:30 p.m. get on the first departing train and transfer at the Lindbergh Center station to the red line.
  • After arriving at the Dunwoody station, exit the fare gates and walk to the parking garage entrance. Use the stairwell/elevator and go down to the lowest level
  • Follow the sidewalk out to the street (Hammond Drive).
  • Turn left on Hammond Drive, which dead ends at the hotel.

Please reference the MARTA GUIDE website for information about Maps, Schedules, Fares, Stations, and much more.

SHUTTLE IS AVAILABLE FROM MARTA STATION TO HOTEL

If you have loads of luggage and cannot walk to the hotel, the operating hours of the Ravinia Shuttle hotel shuttle:

  • Monday – Thursday: 7:00am – 10:00pm
  • Friday: 7:00am – 1:00pm
  • Weekend service currently based on availability of resources and with advance request.
  • Shuttle provides drop off service to guests based on availability, first come first serve basis.

Driving in Atlanta to the Hotel

Driving in Atlanta traffic is challenging and will be further complicated by the I-285/GA 400 interchange construction project that is currently underway. The ADS 2023 National Convention and National Show hotel, the Ravinia – is located right beside I-285 on Ashford Dunwoody Road. Please note that Ashford Dunwoody Road is one of the exits/access points along I-285 that will be impacted!

Suggestions for safe transport, via private or public vehicles, to the hotel follows:

  • The GA Dept of Transportation has a phone app: GA 511. It can be downloaded. It provides lots of information on routing, traffic congestion, vehicular accidents, etc. It is live time info generated from a State facility called the Transportation Management Center in ATL. Some people will also have nav systems in their vehicles which can provide alternate routes with live time info.
  • WAZE is another application that would help.
  • All attendees would benefit from not arriving or departing the Ravinia Hotel during drive time traffic. Middle of the day is best (say 10:30A – 2:30P). After 7:30P and before 6A works. Sundays are better, Saturdays are maybe a little better. But nothing is going to help on the I-285/GA 400 interchange project. It will be congested 24/7 because non-local traffic won’t be aware until it is too late.

Daffodils of Keukenhof!

The ‘Daffodils of Keukenhof’ by Lynwood Hall will be the backdrop for the ADS 2023 National Daffodil Show – Horticulture Division.

This commissioned artwork from Georgia artist, Lynwood Hall, of Moultrie, GA was painted from a photograph taken in 1999 by the artist, at Keukenof in The Netherlands. Georgian, Deen Day Sanders commissioned the artwork and it was used once for an Officer Installation ceremony at a 2009 National Garden Clubs Convention in Houston, TX. This mural is 28 feet wide and 12 feet tall and has been in temperature controlled deep storage since 2009.

Deen Day Sanders commissioned Lynwood to do many murals and paintings. The artist, Lynwood Hall, is thrilled it will be seen once again.

National Photography Show!

An ADS Photography Show celebrates daffodils. To provide additional energy and interest in our ADS shows, we encourage members and the public to contribute daffodil images broadening and advancing our understanding of the daffodil, enhancing our knowledge of the flower and of the rapidly evolving art and technology of photography. • 9:00 am – 10:00 am (Oakwood Room)Judges’ Refresher presentation with Cathy Felton and Michael Berrigan: “The Nitty Gritty of Point Scoring”.Cathy Felton As an ADS judge, you know that the Scale of Points forms the basis of how judges should formulate consistent judgements in determining which exhibits are worthy to be considered eligible for an ADS award. Often times these determinations are fairly obvious, and then, there are those challenging occasions – which call for getting down to the nitty gritty of point scoring.

‘The Nitty Gritty of Point Scoring’ will be discussed by two well-seasoned and wise instructors, Cathy Felton and Michael Berrigan. They will be tackling the very prickly subject of when you must point score. From condition, form, substance/texture to color, pose/stem, and size, these key elements all have to work in harmony for a bloom/collection to be a blue ribbon winner. What are key aspects that will assist with a fair assessment? What minutiae should we not over think and drag on about? What really is considered a severe fault in each criterion? How do we take a step back and consider the outstanding qualities of the exhibit when point scoring? These questions and guidance will be explored. All are welcome to attend this Judges Refresher presentation. Judges requesting credit please register and pay $5 fee; free for all others.

  • 10:15 – 11:15 am (Dunwoody Suite)“Designing with Daffodils” floral design program from Lisa Robinson, an ADS AJ and NGC Flower Show Judge.Lisa Robinson was born and raised in Roanoke, VA. but has lived and worked all over the South and now resides in Holland, Michigan. She started her Garden Club career in 1999 in Alpharetta, Georgia and has since held many administrative roles in the Garden Club of Georgia, Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs and National Garden Clubs, where she currently serves as Scholarship Chairman. Recently relocating to Holland, Michigan, Lisa is active with the West Michigan Designers Guild and Holland Garden Club. Lisa is an NGC Master Judge, accredited since 2008. During her time in Georgia, Lisa served on the Southeastern Flower Show Committee for several years, as the designer and creator of the Horticulture Division layout and staging. At the time, it was an annual show held at the Georgia World Congress Center and received over 40,000 visitors each year. Also, as an active exhibitor in both Horticulture and Design Divisions, she won her first Flower Show ribbons and rosettes.

Always a lover of Daffodils, Lisa became an accredited American Daffodil Society Judge in 2010. Since becoming an ADS judge, she has moved her collection of Daffodil bulbs from Georgia to Virginia, and recently to Michigan. Each new environment determines those that will thrive, and with each new home, many new varieties are added. Lisa is truly enjoying the wonderful soil in her new location and, as she builds her collection, appreciates the wonderful additions that she’s received from members of her new region. She has had the good fortune to judge and attend Daffodil shows in at least 10 states, always meeting wonderful and interesting people. Now retired, Lisa utilized her education in Engineering Technology and Horticulture, as an Interior and Landscape Designer, planner, and consultant for over 35 years. Always happiest with her hands in the dirt or creating something beautiful with plants and flowers, Lisa enjoys designing flowers for Weddings and Funerals, Events, Flower Shows, Home Shows and just for fun.
